Radio station pulls anti-Pope ad Posted: Saturday, Apr 09, 2005 - 09:49:41 am PDT By BRIAN WALKER Staff writer Spot on 'wickedness of the Roman Church' aired just twice POST FALLS -- A Spokane radio station yanked an ad Friday placed by a controversial Post Falls minister who compares the Pope to Hitler. KQNT 590 AM decided Friday after two airings to kill the ad, which was read and submitted by Jon Smith, pastor of Post Falls Presbyterian Church. The ad stated: "Isn't it just great that finally all men speak well of the Pope? Well, to tell the truth, no. Jesus said, 'Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way.' "True Protestants still protest the wickedness of the Roman Church. Why? Because Rome mocks the perfect righteousness of Christ." The 60-second spot ran one time each on Thursday and on Friday surrounding the Pope's funeral. It was scheduled to run again after this weekend, said Kosta Panidis, general manager of Clear Channel Radio of Spokane, which owns six stations. Smith said he ran the ad "to warn people not to believe the Pope." "The Pope is the Antichrist," he said. "That is the historic Protestant position." Smith, who said he had full support from his elders and 20 or so members to run the ad, said he submitted the ad close to the Pope's funeral because "that was the best time." Smith was the center of controversy last year for flying a Confederate flag at his Post Falls home. Members at St. George's Catholic Church in Post Falls and St. Thomas and St. Pius X Catholic churches in Coeur d'Alene on Friday said they hadn't heard about the ad and that the priests were gone. When told about the ad, Marcy Woodward, member of St. George's, said: "My response is, 'Bless their hearts anyway.'" In an interview, Smith compared the Pope to Hitler. "This man damned billions of souls," Smith said. "Don't we have the duty to expose such wickedness as that?" Panidis said the decision to pull the ad wasn't about the content, but public concern. "It was purely about a large percentage of our listeners telling us they didn't like the comments, so we have to respond to that," Panidis said. Panidis wouldn't estimate how many calls the station received other than to say, "It was enough to get our attention." Panidis said he doesn't regret running the ad and that the programmers were aware of the content before it ran. "By law, we have to allow reasonable access to any denomination or religious or cultural group," Panidis said. "I ride this very sharp edge of allowing people to express their points of view as long as it's not vulgar, profane or violent, and this wasn't any of those. But I need to be sensitive if my listeners are vocal." Panidis said that after hearing the ad himself, he could see where it could be taken as "inflammatory to people of certain religions." The ad states that Hebrews 10 teaches that Christ offered one sacrifice for all time, having perfected those for whom He died and that Romans 6 says Christ is never to die again. "But the Roman Church says the opposite," the ad states. "You must attend Mass, which is identical with the sacrifice of the cross in which Christ dies again and again. Rome says Christ's righteousness alone will not get you into Heaven; you must add yours and Mary's and the saints' righteousness, and perhaps you will go to Heaven." Besides the public outcry, Panidis said he considered the concerns expressed by Doug Waltar, pastor of Community Presbyterian Church in Post Falls. The churches, though they have similar names, are not affiliated with each other. Panidis said Waltar was the first caller to the station, stating that the churches are separate. "You could see where the confusion comes into play," Panidis said. Waltar said he wants to make clear the position his congregation holds. "As followers of Jesus Christ, we stand together with brothers and sisters around the world who are part of the Christian family," Waltar said. "I personally hold Pope John Paul II in highest regard for his Christian service and vision for peace and justice in our world, and grieve his death." Waltar said he also called area Catholic churches, clarifying that the ad did not come from him or his congregation. He plans to talk to an executive of the church on Monday to see what type of response to the ad, if any, will be taken. "We have deep concerns about the misunderstandings that may result from this radio spot," Waltar said. "I'm glad the public reacted, and they had every right to." Waltar hadn't heard the ad on Friday, but said he was "horrified" by the tone that was communicated to him. Community Presbyterian Church is affiliated with Presbyterian USA Church. Smith said the church he pastors was formerly attached to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, but currently doesn't belong to a denomination. Smith said he was simply upholding the Presbyterian confession, which states, "There is no other head of the Church, but the Lord Jesus Christ." "If I don't preach this, then I'm denying the confession of faith I vow to uphold," he said. Smith said he was disappointed but not surprised at the decision to stop the ad from running again. "Because they are a privately owned company, they have the right to do that," Smith said. "I just wish they were willing to speak the truth apart from public opinion." Smith said that as of Friday afternoon, he'd received about 10 calls complaining about the ad. "But that's probably nothing compared to what the radio station received," he said. Smith has other radio ads that are running with a similar message, but not pointed specifically at the Pope or the Catholic Church. Johnny died yesterday after a few years fighting tooth and nail over brain cancer.The captain of Thee Dream Team lost this one.Not many can say they beat Johnny,but alas Cancer took him out.I will say upfront, I am no fan of Johnny Cochraine, I used to call him Johnny Cockroach.I was fasinated by his magical court room tricks of confusion,corruption,cheating,lies,denials and preacher deliverence style.This was one Teflon MoFo.He taught us laymen the walk and talk of being a highly sucessful lawyer,thru the ULTIMATE reality show 'The OJ Simspon Double Murder Trial'. And even though OJ lefta trail of evidence that led right to his bedroom from crime scene ,he got OJ off of the double murder with his wit,madd skillz,rhymes and props!!! And even up to the end Johnny was trying HARD to help his long time client Michael Jackson get off,(MJ dont need THAT kind help!),ahh,get a not guilty verdict (alright!). I do hope JC found some time,or coinscience, to write the truth of what OJ told him about his guilt.He once said he had a client who admitted he was guilty,but it was his DUTY to defend his rights!OMG! TERRI SCHIAVO=HUMAN GENIE PIG

Another long day goes by as Terri lays in bed wasting away. I STILL cant understand how,if she is soooooooo unhealthy how the hell can she withstand 12 days with no water or nurishment????? Remember I went on my own hunger strike to oppose the means of death to Terri? I, a 30 year old every healthy,fit woman only made it to 10 days B4 I ravished a cream cheese smeared English Muffin.But tis lady without a voice is hanging in there.Her will to live so strong?Maybe. The bodys natural way? Probaby not.The prayers and love and outpuring of hope and faith?Hopefuly.But its sick.How can they say shes in NO PAIN yet, give her morphine?I HATE all this political-laws crap.This is s HUMAN BEING, not a lab test on how long it takes till this innocent woman,who we dont even KNOW HOW she GOT THIS WAY, takes her last breath? For Petes Sake, how man of you have asked or payed a friend/neighbor/relative to go into your home while you are away TO WATER YOUR PLANTS????? Not to mention the live pets,they need that food and water dang it, and you wouldnt want to or allow your precious loved plants or pets to do without for a minute would ya??? A PLANT! And they call her a vegetable, hey, they need water too!Her brain is damaged,and now they are ruining her other vital organs w/ no nurishment.I am appauled death row convicts get a better vast array of methods of death.No way would we evenstarve a serial baby killler to death in this country. This chick is fighting for her life,and this disgusting act is distracting us from everything else.Emotions aside, and yes, they are RUNNING HIGH,this has to make an impact on death choices.But the answer must be some where between emotion and law. Why does the media want to see Terri Schiavo dead? They keep misrepresenting the facts in her case. This woman is NOT a "vegetable." Vegetative-state people do not sit up in chairs, do not smile, laugh or cry, do not recognize individuals or try to talk -- which Terri does. "Vegetables" are considered to be in an "uncurious" state. Terri's husband wants her dead, people should be asking, "Why?" He was offered $1 million, then $2.5 million and then $5 million to walk away and give guardianship to her parents. Why doesn't he? What can Terri tell if she were able? That her husband is the reason why she got in the state she is in? People are not hearing facts. Here are some facts: Terri told her parents she was going to leave him the day before she was found unconscious. After her parents discovered black bruises on Terri's back, they begged Terri not to go back to her home that night. Terri and Michael had a huge fight that same day. She did not have a heart attack as medics first thought. Medics on the scene called the police and the police thought Terri's circumstances was, or would become, a homicide. She had marks on her neck consistent with strangulation, it was discovered she had fractures on her bones prior to and after the event. Do people know that Michael is 6 feet, 7 inches, loud, obnoxious and a controller? That he recorded the odometer every time Terri went somewhere? Do people know that when Terri was first hurt and while he was suing the doctors for misdiagnosis, he was telling everyone that he loved her, would be with her for life. But as soon as the $700,000 award was made for Terri and $300,000 for Michael, he stopped all and any rehabilitation. There are affidavits signed by several nurses of his behavior -- that Terri could swallow but Michael put a stop to it. When a nurse put a damp wash cloth in Terri's hand because her fingers were closing together, he made them stop because it was therapy. Michael will not allow friends to visit, a radio or TV to be on or her curtains opened. He dictates when Terri's parents can visit. He controls every aspect. The nurses say after his visits, Terri is left crying, despondent, staring. After one particular visit, Terri was out of it and crying. The nurse checked her sugar level and it didn't register. When she checked Terri, there were needle marks under her breast, under her arm and in the groin area. The nurse found a concealed bottle of insulin in the trash, which could have killed Terri. When the nurse reported it to her superiors and the police, she was fired. When Terri got an infection, Michael was full of glee and wanted to know when the "b---h" was going to die. Isn't it interesting that it was seven years later, after the settlement, after Michael had proposed to another woman that he remembered, "Oh, yeah, Terri and I were having dinner one night and watching the fate of Karen Ann Qwenlin and she said that she wouldn't want to live like that." The first judge admitted Michael's statement as fact and that is what the other courts reviewed, facts set by the first judge. How does this hearsay have merit in the eyes of the court? Terri does not deserve to die. She does not wish to die. She tried to tell her attorney before the feeding tube was pulled "I want to live" -- that is documented. The liberal media is biased and wants to portray this vicious husband as a loving one. What loving husband would have multiple affairs and have children with another woman? It is a lie when they say she can feel no pain -- Terri is dying a very painful death. Take a stand for this woman, for life. =^.^=

We ALL know the sad story of Terri, who is i a vegetative state in Florida.Her husband swore 14 years ago that he would give her the best care for 20 years,along w/ $700,00.00 to do it.Mike Schiavo has dumped Terri in a less than whats needed facility an spent the bulk of Terris money on LAWYERS TO SPEED UP HER DEATH, yes, speed it up, not improve quality or therapy.TO PULL THE PLUG! It is a black eye on AMERICA that while most of the country are fat assed twinkie piehole stuffing couch potatoes, the only thing to do for Terri is to STARVE HER TO DEATH,SLOWLY.Is this the freaking 1500's? STARVE TO DEATH? We are THE FATTEST NATION.We throw out more food than some third world countries consme.STARVE???? Even on Death Row those pigs are getting nurished and medical and care! On a (very) personal note: Friday after I had dinner I desided that I wouldnt eat any solid foods while Terri suffered til death.I wanted to see what my min and body would go through even though I am a very fit and healthy 30 year old.Its the week of Easter and I have been fasting from Red Meat and donuts since lent started,and thought this last week I would sacrifice in honor of Terri.So I am a bit more screwy (HEY!!), worn out easy and am snappier/cranky. Just liquids.Dont roll your eyes and say, 'Thats lame Kitten'! Sounds like high drama, but I felt like I should do it,in her name,her honor for respect to her. My heart,prayers and love and hope to the Schindler family and all whose lives they and Terri touched.All you who have you own personal battles to fight. How ever this situation turns out, I wish it to be quick and over.Life or Death. Prosecutor dies from cocaine injections He'd had a long decline, loss of family and home By JIM SUHR Associated Press Writer MACON, Mo. � A former prosecutor and family man once known for a firm grasp of the difference between right and wrong, David Masters arrived at his death bound to a chair, his final stop along a road of poor choices. Two housemates are accused of being his judge and jury, condemning Masters for owing three weeks of rent and making passes at a woman with whom he lived. When the woman pulled out a gun, court papers say, Masters said he'd rather die from drugs � so the father of seven was injected with syringe after syringe of cocaine. The 52-year-old's body was found the next day near a river in the Ozarks, a couple hundred miles from this small town where he made his name upholding the law. "No one in their wildest imagination would ever dream he would succumb to an illicit drug problem and associate with the people he did," said James Foley, a former Macon County prosecutor and retired judge. "They try and rationalize it, but you couldn't even make this up in TV fiction. That's what his life became." No one will say if Masters might have been using drugs as his life fell apart. Since losing re-election in 1998, he'd abandoned clients, separated from his wife and surrounded himself with drug users, his daughter said. Brad Funk, an assistant prosecutor under Masters for more than five years in the 1990s, said his one-time mentor always "tried to do the right thing. That's why it's so shocking, sickening that David ended up such a lost soul." Masters came to Macon in 1990, when then-Gov. John Ashcroft tapped him to be the county's prosecutor. Masters was a sharp, organized litigator who devoted full-time hours to the part-time job, and had a private law practice on the side to make ends meet. Masters often was in the courthouse readying his cases before dawn, then could be seen at his private practice downtown into the wee hours of some mornings. "He was as productive as two or three attorneys put together," says Funk, since 2001 an associate circuit judge in Mercer County. Investment Scheme Unfolds in Philly Trial (AP) By DAVID B. CARUSO, Associated Press Writer PHILADELPHIA - For anyone who looked closely enough, the presidential campaign finance reports posed a mystery: Why, in the winter of 2003, were a handful of wealthy investment bankers making donations to the Rev. Al Sharpton? Federal prosecutors offered this surprising answer: It was all part of a scheme involving government pension funds, city contracts, and a plan to take over scores of chicken joints. The unusual allegation was tucked away in a 150-page indictment handed up last June as part of a sweeping FBI probe of city government in Philadelphia. A federal jury began hearing more about it Wednesday in the trial of the city's former treasurer, Corey Kemp. The case centers on charges that Kemp accepted thousands of dollars in illegal gifts from the late Democratic fund-raiser Ronald White in exchange for influence over which companies received city contracts. FBI agents tapped White's phones for nine months as part of the probe, and it was during that investigation that they allegedly overheard him talking with Detroit fast food king La-Van Hawkins about enlisting Sharpton's help with an ambitious business plan. In 2003, Hawkins had recently sold off an empire of Pizza Huts and Burger Kings and was hoping to replace them with Church's Chicken, Popeye's Chicken and Cinnabon franchises. To do it, he needed millions of dollars in new capital. Investigators said he turned to White, an old friend. The plan, prosecutors said, was complex: Hawkins hoped to get financing from New York City's huge pension fund. To do so, he needed to persuade the city's controller, William Thompson, that the investment was worthwhile. And to do that, he needed to get his foot in the door. That's where Sharpton came in, according to the indictment. Both Hawkins and Thompson were friendly with the long-shot presidential candidate. Hawkins hoped Sharpton might be willing to make an introduction. White's job was to warm Sharpton to the idea by raising money for his cash-strapped campaign. To do it, he turned to financial services executives who he had helped get work in Philadelphia. Several of the fund-raising calls were recorded by the FBI. "I know this is gonna sound strange to you, but, it's not strange, OK," White told Stewart Wolmark, an executive at CDR Financial Products of Beverly Hills, Calif. "Let me tell you, you know, this guy has a lot of contacts and in particular, ah, he has a very strong relationship with the controller up in New York." Wolmark agreed to help raise $5,000 for Sharpton. "I mean, don't ... don't let them think that we crazy ... you know what I mean," White said, laughing. "I mean, this has nothing to do with winning or losing the presidential." White made a similar pitch to Jim Reynolds, an executive at Chicago-based Loop Capital Markets. "Don't think I'm crazy when I tell you this, all right?" White said. "It's, it's, it's Al Sharpton. OK. For, for, for President." "You are crazy man," Reynolds said, laughing, although he quickly agreed to help raise another $5,000. "Well, let me tell you something, man. I'll tell you what he brings," White said of Sharpton. "He brings access to, into these corporate rooms. Where we, where we're not getting these deals from." The plan worked, at least in part. Thompson ultimately agreed to speak with White. The meeting took place on May 8, 2003, at Sharpton's request, according to Thompson's office. The discussion never resulted in a deal. Thompson's spokesman said that when the meeting took place, White wanted to talk about hedge fund investments, not restaurants. Sharpton's lawyer said there was nothing improper about arranging the meeting. Neither Thompson nor Sharpton nor the executives are accused of any wrongdoing, but prosecutors brought a charge against White and Hawkins for allegedly asking Kemp to do a little acting to help salvage the restaurant deal. In a meeting secretly videotaped by the FBI, Kemp sat down at a New York hotel with Aslam Khan, an Illinois businessman considering a sale of his Church's Chicken franchises. Investigators said Kemp tried to make Hawkins' bid appear more secure by suggesting that it could get financial backing from Philadelphia's pension fund. At the time, Kemp had no authority over the fund. White was charged with giving the treasurer $10,000, a new deck for his house and tickets to the 2003 Super Bowl in exchange for his help with various business deals. Defense attorneys said the gifts were not illegal. They have also disputed that Kemp, White or Hawkins did anything wrong during their meeting with Khan. The trial is expected to last many weeks. His critics call it kidnapping. �Priest Cesare Lodeserto, the former head of an Italian foundation that looks after illegal immigrants, has been making front-page news in Italy since he was arrested last weekend over accusations he had mistreated Romanian prostitutes. The women allege that the well-known crusader against sex slavery kidnapped them by taking away their identity papers and refusing to let them leave the immigration center in southern Lecce province. Lodeserto's lawyer told Reuters that the priest sheltered them for their own good after they were found drunk in town. "A few times I behaved like a strict father, but what could I do? So far the publicity and the pros and cons of an edgy young black stand up comedic are generating alot of buzz.Great plan ABC! They knew very well what type of comic Rock is,and as a fan of his, I am glad to see the brother get a chance.He isnt rasict, he keeps it real by pointing out the differences in all the cultures and makes fun of it all.I realy doubt he will drop any F bombs or say anything too out there.He is a highly paid professional,and frankly with new babies and a wife to feed, he will fall into place nicely and keep us entertained,and awake! Now there's proposed legislation to pay $1,000 monthly to the aged former civilian sailors, who hauled troops, tanks, bombers, fuel and other wartime goods to keep Allied forces supplied. "My bill is a belated thank you," said Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif. A Navy movement to put them under military control was scuttled during the war by shipping companies that held lucrative government contracts and by the men's union, which didn't want to lose control of the workers, historians say. The rivalry and later general disinterest in the merchant marines' cause conspired to relegate them to second-class veterans. Duffy recalled the disparate treatment he received compared with a friend in the Coast Guard. Captured by the Germans at 20 and delivered to the Japanese, Duffy spent 37 months - exactly 1,119 days, he said - in Pacific prisoner of war camps. He endured scarce food and medicine and his prisoner work detail was forced to build the Japanese a railroad across Sumatra. "I came home after this experience and had no benefits, no (paid college tuition under the) GI Bill, no nothing," Duffy said. His friend got full military benefits after spending the entire war as a clerk in a New York office of the Coast Guard. A little like today's civilian contractors working with the military in war zones, the 1940s seamen got higher pay than military counterparts - though not that much higher. They say the difference was negated once they calculated that they were paid only for time at sea - not shore time like the military - and they didn't get the insurance, health care, lower mortgage rates, preferred employment status and educational opportunities that returning armed forces got. Frank Medeiros said he was paid $3,000 in 1943 for what had been billed as a four-month convoy to supply allied Russian troops at Murmansk. The round-trip run ended up taking 13 months, and two dozen of its three dozen merchant ships were lost to attacks along the way. Now an 83-year-old part-time dispatcher for the union Masters, Mates and Pilots in San Francisco, he says grateful Russians later invited former mariners to visit, awarding them medals. "And I got a letter from former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev," said Medeiros. "They called us patriots." Of his own government, he says: "They shouldn't have done what they did to us." A benefits bill was killed in the 1940s - "torpedoed by powerful military lobbyists who influenced congressmen and senators," said author Brian Herbert, who drew from government documents, diaries and survivor interviews to write his 2004 book, "The Forgotten Heroes: The Heroic Story of the United States Merchant Marine." The mariners got veteran status - and therefore some limited benefits - when they sued the military in 1988, by which time some postwar programs had expired. A VERY PATRIOTIC SUPERBOWL! Are ya Ready 4 some FOOTBALL???

Many of you know of my love of sports,my love of football and my DEEP LOYALTY and love 4 the Miami Dolphins! I dont think in my life there wasnt a Super Bowl I didnt watch,even as a little dol-fan I loved it! This years game,even though my beloved Dolphins werent in it (shut up! I know its been a lonnnngg dry spell!) I thought it was a patriotic show from top to bottom! The two teams: EAGLES and PATRIOTS, how much more American can we get kids?! The pre-pregame FOX show brought us ex Presidents Papa Bush and Bill Clinton to the analyst desk with the boys! Clinton looked great, rested,happy,ready for some ball (note:Hillary...NOT THERE!) Papa Bush looked great,too! So nice to see 2 boys from Yale getting along so swell! They looked so comfy and happy! Then comes the top notch pregame music portion! Its that red hott RedNeck Woman Gretchen Wilson singin one of my jamz,and out comes Charlie freaking Daniels! The Devil went down to Georgia blazed from his finger tips (and no Hannity anywhere close to sing along,damn!).Then the Black Eyed Peas followed and they all jelled together on stage, it was cool..UNTIL one of the Peas took Charlies 50 gallon white tetson from his head and placed it on his under Charlies weird glare! OMG! AND the Pea left out Gretchens name.Oh no he did int!Yes, he did.Charlie snached his white stetson back to his head and hopefuly staightened that kid out backstage. The ceremony honoring our beloved Vets fromwars gone by.They looked so awesome.The men and women who kicked some major ass to save ours.They may have looked frail,but there beats the hearts of great Americans.I had to stop and think, 'Kitten,if you were geared up,ready to take the field,this is lighting your ass on fire to win this big show!Look what these awesome folk did, at least I can go out there and play the best damn game POSSIBLE!' ! GOD BLESS all those vets and thier families and those who passed before them.And the FLY OVER! Amazing.My proud American heart was swelling and thumping like Bill Clinton at a Hotters! Man, I WAS PROUD,cried a tear or too for those vets and thinking of the brave souls overseas right now.As we comfortably sit on our nice couches gorging on subs,chicken wings,beer and chips and salsa ( I love the word salsa!) those troops are wishing they were home.That brought me down! Watching those hulking ballers with thier hands over heart and tears in their eyes realy was touching.I felt some were gonna give all for the vets and troops and America thanks to this massive wave of patriotism! The one the guy is preparing a romantic meal,and right as the girl comes thru door,the white cat knocks spagetti sauce on floor, and guy winds up w/ cat by scruff of neck and big ass knife in other! You KNEW that would make me yak up a big furball, didnt ya!? The game was good, even though my Fins werent in it, I was enjoying it anyways!Hell, at least Dan Marino will be inducted into the FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME this August in CANTON,OHIO! YYYEEEAAAAAAAWWWWHHHH!!! (My Canton/Ohio peeps give me a call!) Half time show! Oh, its Paul McCartney.......no sexed up show here! 2 years since SPACE SHUTTLE DISASTER.DID Ya'll FORGET???

=^.^= I didnt hear any chatter yesterday on national news reguarding these brave souls who were lost in space 2 years ago.One of the astronauts was MICHAEL ANDERSON,a local Spokane boy, who will soon have a Memorial of him here.So heres a news story about the gatherings yesterday.God Bless them and their families.God Bless America =^.^= Shuttle crew remembered on anniversary 2/1/2005, 9:09 p.m. ET By PAM EASTON The Associated Press� HOUSTON (AP) � Family members of the astronauts who died aboard the space shuttle Columbia watched as officials dedicated a granite memorial to their loved ones Tuesday, the second anniversary of the accident that killed the shuttle's seven-member crew. The monument in a downtown park consisted of a concrete pedestal topped with a black plaque honoring the seven men and women "who made the supreme sacrifice to advance humankind." Surrounded by seven magnolia trees, the memorial is also near a similar tribute to the astronauts who died in the 1986 Challenger disaster. Johnson Space Center Director Gen. Jefferson D. Howell Jr. said it was fitting that a Columbia memorial be placed in Houston. "As most of us in Houston know, the first word spoken from the surface of the moon was Houston," he told visitors at the ceremony. Columbia disintegrated over Texas as it returned from a 16-day mission on Feb. 1, 2003. Investigators blamed the accident on a hole in the shuttle's wing caused by a piece of insulating foam that tumbled from the shuttle's external fuel tank, striking the wing during liftoff. The searing gases of re-entry entered the gash and melted the wing from the inside, causing the orbiter to disintegrate. The loss is still painful, said Jon Clark, a NASA neurologist who was married to astronaut Laurel Clark, a member of Columbia's final crew. "It's not the searing heart ripped out of your chest, it's more of just a chronic ache," he said. Evelyn Husband lost her spouse, shuttle commander Rick Husband. "There is such a desire in my heart to return to normal, and yet this is something we are never going to be able to forget," she said. She planned to go to her 9-year-old son's school Tuesday because he wanted to release a balloon with a private note attached for his father. "I told Matthew the other day, 'Feb. 1 was not a bad day for Daddy. He had a bad minute or so, but he didn't have a bad day. He went from flying the shuttle to being in the presence of God.'" The memorial was paid for by the city and private donors. Elsewhere in Texas, residents laid out roses during a remembrance ceremony in Hemphill, a small town where shuttle debris was found after Columbia broke apart. Mourners also placed flowers at a memorial at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. The shuttle fleet has been grounded since 2003 as NASA works to meet return-to-flight recommendations put forth by Columbia accident investigators. BEN STEINS LAST COLUMN ENTRY

For many years Ben Stein has written a biweekly column for the online website called "Monday Night At Morton's." (Morton's is a famous chain of Steakhouses known to be frequented by movie stars and famous people from around the globe.) Now, Ben is terminating the column to move on to other things in his life. Reading his final column is worth a few minutes of your time. Ben Stein's Last Column... (read all of this or you will have missed the best). ==================================== "How Can Someone Who Lives in Insane Luxury Be a Star in Today's World"?� ��� As I begin to write this, I "slug" it, as we writers say, which means I put a heading on top of the document to identify it. This heading is "eonlineFINAL," and it gives me a shiver to write it. I have been doing this column for so long that I cannot even recall when I started. I loved writing this column so much for so long I came to believe it would never end. ��� It worked well for a long time, but gradually, my changing as a person and the world's change have overtaken it. On a small scale, Morton's, while better than ever, no longer attracts as many stars as it used to. It still brings in the rich people in droves and definitely some stars. I saw Samuel L. Jackson there a few days ago, and we had a nice visit, and right before that, I saw and had a splendid talk with Warren Beatty in an elevator, in which we agreed that Splendor in the Grass was a super movie. But Morton's is not the star galaxy it once was, though it probably will be again. ��� Beyond that, a bigger change has happened. I no longer think Hollywood stars are terribly important. They are uniformly pleasant, friendly people, and they treat me better than I deserve to be treated. But a man or woman who makes a huge wage for memorizing lines and reciting them in front of a camera is no longer my idea of a shining star we should all look up to. ��� How can a man or woman who makes an eight-figure wage and lives in insane luxury really be a star in today's world, if by a "star" we mean someone bright and powerful and attractive as a role model? Real stars are not riding around in the backs of limousines or in Porsches or getting trained in yoga or Pilates and eating only raw fruit while they have Vietnamese girls do their nails. ��� They can be interesting, nice people, but they are not heroes to me any longer. A real star is the soldier of the 4th Infantry Division who poked his head into a hole on a farm near Tikrit, Iraq. He could have been met by a bomb or a hail of AK-47 bullets. Instead, he faced an abject Saddam Hussein and the gratitude of all of the decent people of the world. ��� A real star is the U.S. soldier who was sent to disarm a bomb next to a road north of Baghdad. He approached it, and the bomb went off and killed him. ��� A real star, the kind who haunts my memory night and day, is the U.S. soldier in Baghdad who saw a little girl playing with a piece of unexploded ordnance on a street near where he was guarding a station. He pushed her aside and threw himself on it just as it exploded. He left a family desolate in California and a little girl alive in Baghdad. ��� The stars who deserve media attention are not the ones who have lavish weddings on TV but the ones who patrol the streets of Mosul even after two of their buddies were murdered and their bodies battered and stripped for the sin of trying to protect Iraqis from terrorists. ��� We put couples with incomes of $100 million a year on the covers of our magazines. The noncoms and officers who barely scrape by on military pay but stand on guard in Afghanistan and Iraq and on ships and in submarines and near the Arctic Circle are anonymous as they live and die. ��� I am no longer comfortable being a part of the system that has such poor values, and I do not want to perpetuate those values by pretending that who is eating at Morton's is a big subject. ��� There are plenty of other stars in the American firmament...the policemen and women who go off on patrol in South Central and have no idea if they will return alive; the orderlies and paramedics who bring in people who have been in terrible accidents and prepare them for surgery; the teachers and nurses who throw their whole spirits into caring for autistic children; the kind men and women who work in hospices and in cancer wards. ��� Think of each and every fireman who was running up the stairs at the World Trade Center as the towers began to collapse. Now you have my idea of a real hero. ��� We are not responsible for the operation of the universe, and what happens to us is not terribly important. God is real, not a fiction; and when we turn over our lives to Him, He takes far better care of us than we could ever do for ourselves. In a word, we make ourselves sane when we fire ourselves as the directors of the movie of our lives and turn the power over to Him. ��� I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters. This is my highest and best use as a human. I can put it another way. Years ago, I realized I could never be as great an actor as Olivier or as good a comic as Steve Martin...or Martin Mull or Fred Willard--or as good an economist as Samuelson or Friedman or as good a writer as Fitzgerald. Or even remotely close to any of them. ��� But I could be a devoted father to my son, husband to my wife and, above all, a good son to the parents who had done so much for me. This came to be my main task in life. I did it moderately well with my son, pretty well with my wife and well indeed with my parents (with my sister's help). I cared for and paid attention to them in their declining years. I stayed with my father as he got sick, went into extremis and then into a coma and then entered immortality with my sister and me reading him the Psalms. ��� This was the only point at which my life touched the lives of the soldiers in Iraq or the firefighters in New York. I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters and that it is my duty, in return for the lavish life God has devolved upon me, to help others He has placed in my path. Man peed way out of avalanche A Slovak man trapped in his car under an avalanche freed himself by drinking 60 bottles of beer and urinating on the snow to melt it. Rescue teams found Richard Kral drunk and staggering along a mountain path four days after his Audi car was buried in the Slovak Tatra mountains. He told them that after the avalanche, he had opened his car window and tried to dig his way out. But as he dug with his hands, he realised the snow would fill his car before he managed to break through. He had 60 half-litre bottles of beer in his car as he was going on holiday, and after cracking one open to think about the problem he realised he could urinate on the snow to melt it, local media reported. He said: "I was scooping the snow from above me and packing it down below the window, and then I peed on it to melt it. It was hard and now my kidneys and liver hurt. But I'm glad the beer I took on holiday turned out to be useful and I managed to get out of there." Ever Wonder Where GOD is DURING A DISASTER? Ever ask WHY??

ASKING WHY? Tsunami crisis revives perennial question: 'Where was God?' BY RICHARD N. OSTLING Associated Press Why? The age-old question was posed in starkest form by the Indian Ocean tsunami. Believers from all faiths united on their duty to help victims but wondered, where was God in this unimaginable suffering? Skeptics perennially argue: If God is all-powerful, he isn't all-loving since he commands or allows devastation, or if he's all-loving, he isn't all-powerful. The Bible insists on both qualities in God while openly acknowledging the agony of mortals pondering calamity, and it provides human history's greatest meditation on this problem, the Book of Job. Skepticism surged in many tsunami commentaries. Even Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams said "this has made me question God's existence." Well, no, it didn't. But London's Sunday Telegraph slapped that erroneous headline on Williams' January article. When the archbishop's people protested, the Telegraph lamely said Williams himself "must accept much of the blame" for its mistake because his thinking was "so hard to follow." Rather, Williams treated the question as difficult and acknowledged there are no snappy solutions. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ rebuked those who thought a man was blind because of his or his parents' sin (John 9:1-3). And after a tsunami-type disaster, Jesus denied that the 18 people who died in the Siloam tower collapse did so because they were more sinful than others (Luke 13:1-5). In the Book of Job, Yeshiva University's Rabbi Benjamin Blech commented, the hero's friends were convinced he must have sinned and deserved God's wrath. But in actuality Job suffered because his holiness was being tested and God condemned the friends. New York Times columnist William Safire said Job shows that "questioning God's inscrutable ways has its exemplar in the Bible and need not undermine faith." The upshot of Job, British evangelical Derek Kidner has written, is that human arguments exhaust themselves, we can never know all the factors involved and God is "not accountable to us." Standard Christian attempts to explain the inexplicable: God did not originate suffering and will eventually vanquish it. God himself suffered for us, in Christ. God works for good amid all suffering. Temporary suffering is inconsequential compared with eternity that will right all wrongs. President R. Albert Mohler of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary cited the Apostle Paul's teaching in Romans 11:33-34: "How unsearchable are (God's) judgments and how inscrutable his ways! TSUNAMI RELIEF FUNDS.Have we gone OVERBOARD???

Its been a few weeks of constant imagry,converstaions and begging for the devestated people and land due to Mother Natures Path of violent distruction.Today I hear the deathtoll has risen to over 225,000 dead.Not to mention the complete enialation of the undersea world.Reefs and coral and all other forms of life hae been turned into brown broken twigs on swirlin disturbed sea bottom.The surviving sea life seems to swim in what was once their home ,confused and well,homeless too. My heart BLEEDS for the poor poverty striken families whose family was nearly if not totaly DESTROYED.The land and homes can be rebuilt, but the mind F*ck they got will NEVER disapate!! Having had the chance to filter all this over the few weeks I have come to some pretty harsh,maybe INSENSITIVE thoughts on the situation.Having just poured my heart out over the tragic missing,sealife,nature,animals and the poverty striken and dead this might shock you. I AM TSUNAMI RELIEF FUND OVERDOSED!!!!! No am am not a cold hearted bitch (hey!) I am just thinking of all the Marriots and other lavish resorts(many of us would never afford) their on those beaches.The Wealthy business people making tons of money do to textiles, sex industry,resort villages,you know.Well, dont they have INSURANCE???? What about the investers??? Why is it that we The Greatest Country in this whole stinking world has to put aside our own hurricanes,floods,mudslides,avalances,social in-security and the likes?Why does our generous President give up $350,000,000 MILLION bucks and all the while Pappa Bush and Big Billy are pumping us little chumps for a five or ten to top it off?How the hell much do we NEED to give?? Like I said what about the resorts insurance?Whatabout all the rich land owners/investors with their fat wallets from all the years of profit of a shack on a beautiful beach?(and remember I am born and raised on South Floridas beaches where we had yearly danger, so I am not so outta the loop).I just have the feeling some third world countries evil doers will be skimmin' from the top,bottom sideways and all.And once again, the real people,kids and families who are poor and in need will fall thru the cracks.AGAIN! Oh, I aint done ranting yet Baby, just starting the good stuff! ;-)> Lets get into the All Star Celeb TV fundraiser.I almost needed a puke bucket! Does George Clooney answering the phone make ya wanna dump your bank account in his lap?Brad Pitt or Does Sarah Jessica Parker (or SJP to the Hollyweird crowd) does she make you feel so bad and blessed that you should give till it hurts?OK, I know they think diff than us and their reality ist ours.I do think that in thier heart of hearts the were doing something possitive, shaking down the guilt ridden troubled American public for hard earned bucks(even though our tax dollars have been promised,and I dont remember being asked about that one either!).What the HELL does Bill O'Rielly get off,after demonizing the left coast freaks and all that implies,snuggeling up with the Hollywood movers and shakers?Oh, remember he started as a crappy entertainment reporter!!! Still trying to get back in the pack, huh Bill? YUCK! Maybe his kinky phone sex makes him the new Hollyweird 'IT BOY'!(I dont know what 'it' woud be!).So I am watching all these HIGHLY PAID,OVERPAID actors and singers preaching to us to give,give,give.I realize many gave bucks.Not all like Sandra Bulluck pulled a Million out, but I am sure that many broke off a small chunk to make themselves feel better while doing laps in their indoor olympic sized pools ;-)> !!! Just what some of these celebs have paid for out of pocket for sex, drugs,murder and other freaky scandals,(some quietly handeled,and some got the loud big bang O'Rielly bust!) All that sin soaked bucks clearly over rides the amount given to Tsunami victims.Hell Michael Jackson and the Catholic Church payouts alone would rebuild not only OUR POVERTY STRIKEN counties but other third world countries.I am sick and outraged.Who sticks up for our troops that are dead and families,wives,kids,folks and partners?Who will stand up with a telethon for Social InSecurity for us youngin's?? Who but Ollie North and Sean Hannity started a fund for fallen soldiers kids to go to college?(love ya Sean and Ollie!) Who will start a telethon for our maimed,broken and injured for life brave soldiers,for the rest of their lives?Who will start a fund for the many Americans who cant afford meds or decent treatment for cancer,hep,aides and such? Who wil start a fund for poverty striken rural woman and children? Doesnt ANYBODY give a rip about OUR OWN FALLEN? Do any of these countries we run to their aide EVER stepup with condolences and some money? Tell me, cause I dont see it. Do you know that our 350 Million would do for our impoverish,elderly,sick,mental, veterans,and just update our own systems? I LOVE OUR COUNTRY and its big heart of gold.But enuff is enuff.We are broke, broken and unless the government just starts printing money and give out like government chese, we will be a third world country after proppin up and saving and rebuilding every other place more needy than us! Hell, that 99.9% of the world! We are the BIG DOGS. I say, save some scraps for us! So in closing(finaly,that chicks got alot to say, you're thinking aintcha!?) The world would have benn better served by the rich talented good looking entertainers who razz-mattazed the money out of us,if THEY would have collectively pitched in justa chip of their 20 Milion dollar paychecks and platinum record sales bucks and over the top althelic saleries (Kobes cheatin diamond would have rebuilt Shri Lanka alone!!).That would make me proud,not wanna grab the puke bucket! OOOOhhh,OOhhhh, I ALMOST FORGOT one last point of pissiness! How can Indonesia tell our helpers to get out of their country after they deliver much needed $$$, meds and assistance?? What a smack in the face.I can go on and on about that disrespect,and the worlds hatred of us,but ney! My heart goes out to those poor diplaced and dead people and animals for sure, but my money(what little I have will go to our American troops,thier families and the police and firemans funds.I hate to be a hard ass kids(its tight anyways!),but Here is ANOTHER WAKE UP CALL.Dont hit the snooze button.DEMAND these undercover do-gooders and their sappy telethons give more than ther PRECIOUS OVERPAID TIME! Like I said before, we now finaly get what the BS in CBS stands for.BULLSH*T! How could this have happened to such a trustworthy network.The ax came down and heads rolled yesterday at the CBS network after the Rathergate fallout from the dirrty elecion time blunder they got caught in! OK, heres what gets my hair up! DANRATHERnotcheckoutcredibility was thee guy who cracked the story like a cold Miller on a hott summer day! YET, his head remains on at CBS! Little folks, mostly WOMEN got the boot from the station, yet good ole boy Dan stays! Yes kids, whata great country! You can throw all kinds of crap out there and remain a beloved,trusted newsman.Well, maybe the trust issue is tarnished, but I doubt we will see Dan on the weather channel any time soon. So, even a little blog/cyber rat like me has to check and check and re-check my smackdown of our pop culture.
